How SIMS Got Its Start
Before it was SIMS Heating and Cooling, it was Southern Industrial Maintenance Solutions, keeping the equipment behind grocery stores and apartment complexes running. Cardboard balers, trash compactors, the machines nobody thinks about until they quit. That is where the name comes from, and it is where the standard came from, too. When something has to work, you become the person who makes it work.
The heating and cooling side grew out of two people who took different paths to the same trade. Steve has been in HVAC since 1997. He ran his own company in Tampa for seventeen years before selling it and moving home to be closer to family. Spencer trained at Embry-Riddle and earned an A&P certification working on aircraft, where a missed detail is a real problem, not an inconvenience. Spencer always wanted to run his own shop, and when he and Steve met through a mutual friend, the pieces fit: Steve’s decades on the tools, Spencer’s aircraft-grade precision.
SIMS is still based out of Crescent City today, with a mailing address in nearby Georgetown. It is a small-town operation in the best sense. The same two people who answer your call are the ones who show up at your door.
What We Stand For
SIMS runs on a simple philosophy: fix it first. We check the system, explain what is wrong, and recommend a repair whenever a repair makes sense. We would rather earn your trust today and install a new system when you truly need one than sell you something you do not.
Our promise is just as direct. There will always be the occasional bump in an HVAC job. What matters is knowing your HVAC company will make it right. We are the kind of company that gets it right the first time or makes it right every time.

Meet the Team Behind SIMS
Steve Doner, Co-Owner and Licensed Contractor. Nearly thirty years in the trade, seventeen of them running his own company. He got into HVAC by watching an uncle build a good life with his hands, and he has spent his career proving that showing up matters as much as the repair itself. If Steve gives you a time, he is there on time, or you hear from him. At his last company, customers trusted him with keys to their homes, and he plans to earn that trust again here.
Spencer Jones, Co-Owner and Veteran. Embry-Riddle-trained and aircraft-certified, Spencer brought the precision of the aviation world down to ground level. He set out to build a company that does the job right every time and treats people honestly. He will answer the phone on a Saturday night and drive out rather than leave a family without AC until Monday. That is not a policy. That is just who he is.
Jessica Jones runs the books and keeps the business steady behind the scenes. She handles the scheduling and the paperwork most customers never see, which is exactly what lets Steve and Spencer stay focused on the work in front of them. SIMS is a family operation, and it shows up in the work.
Licensed, Insured, and Built on Experience
SIMS is licensed, bonded, and insured under CAC1814745. Florida requires HVAC contractors to hold a state license through the Construction Industry Licensing Board, which means passing trade and business exams before ever touching a customer’s system. Between Steve’s decades in the field and Spencer’s aircraft-level attention to detail, SIMS brings more than fifty years of combined, hands-on trade experience to every home and business we visit. We are also EPA certified for refrigerant handling, and Spencer’s veteran status makes SIMS a proud veteran-owned company.
